About Rhys Clarke

Creative Writer - Journalist - Director - Teacher

Creative Writer

I am a prolific writer of a wide range of fiction, including short stories, novels, plays, and experimental prose. I can turn my hand to most genres of fiction, from high fantasy to grotesque satire. Often, my fiction tends to be speculative and playful, exploring strange new worlds and weird characters. I enjoy exploring many themes that are relevant for contemporary readers such as: the rise of political extremism, capitalist excess, and moral hypocrisy, and many other issues that dominate the twenty-first century.

Journalist

During my period of higher education, I contributed as a student journalist to a plethora of magazines. I have continued to write for numerous publications since graduating. I have produced literary, film, and theatrical reviews; as well as breaking news stories and cultural commentary. Some might shy away from the term ‘infotainment,’ but I believe in this tedious media landscape littered with biased hacks and unimaginative talking heads, a true journalist must be able to simultaneously inform and educate their readers.

Director

I am an experienced director of film and theatre. I have directed and produced many of my original plays for a range of different audiences. I have also collaborated with directors on large-scale projects. I believe it is a director’s responsibility to maintain a clear vision when working on bringing a project to life, whilst simultaneously striving to ensure the safety and well-being of their actors. I relish the opportunity to tackle challenging scripts, and I am determined to produce bold new theatre.

Teacher

I have worked as an English and Drama teacher for secondary school age students for many years. Throughout this time, I have been responsible for providing high-quality education for diverse groups of students, as well as creating a safe and educational environment for students to flourish in their academic development. I have experience working as a tutor for individual students, as well as guiding small groups, and teaching whole classes. I work hard to provide my students with the tools required to advance in their learning.
