Uncanny

Formerly known as the University of Warwick’s Undergraduate Literary and Creative Journal, Uncanny has evolved into a premier student-run publication dedicated to literary research, modernity, and critical theory.

It focuses on publishing a sophisticated blend of rigorous academic research, experimental creative writing, evocative poetry, and long-form personal essays. The journal serves as a vital platform for undergraduate creatives, giving them the editorial support needed to refine their writing styles and explore the intersections of imagination, academic analysis, and the creative spirit.

Uncanny operates with a collaborative editorial board composed of students from diverse academic backgrounds and areas of expertise. This team ensures that every published piece goes through a thorough review process that mirrors professional literary publishing, promoting high-quality undergraduate research. Beyond its publications and regular blog posts, Uncanny also fosters a vibrant literary community by organizing a variety of social and academic events throughout the academic year.

By dedicating itself to the nuanced exploration of literary theory and the mechanics of storytelling, the magazine highlights and supports the profound talent of emerging writers within the university’s academic community.

My Experience at Uncanny

Working as both a writer and Deputy Editor for the Warwick Uncanny literary magazine helped me further develop my own writing style, helping me experiment with producing long-form, deeply personal essays that explored the interplay between childhood imagination, the creative spirit, and literary writing.

As a Deputy Editor, I was responsible for collaborating with a team of fellow editors, and reviewing articles and essays submitted by our team of student journalists.
